Dr. Benette Whitmore's extensive publishing accomplishments includes six picture books for young children (Random House, Barron's Educational Series), a young adult novel (Bloomsbury USA), a children's play performed in the Boston area, an international PBS television show (Pappyland), adult fiction (The North American Review), and a screenplay for a horror film drawing attention to missing and murdered Indigenous women. She is writer/director/producer for a PBS podcast for kids titled, Funky Foodies, Inc .
Benette works in higher education and holds a master's degree in Public Communications Management and a doctoral degree in Cultural Foundations of Education, both from Syracuse University. She is on the faculty at SUNY College of Environmental Science & Forestry in Syracuse, NY, where she teaches courses in science education and creative responses to the environment. She was instrumental in launching a digital storytelling studio at the college.

The Funky Foodies podcast, streaming on PBS, was nominated for a 2026 Webby Award. The Webby Awards are the leading international honor for internet excellence, presented annually by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS). Established in 1996, they recognize top achievements in websites, advertising, media, video, apps, and social content, often dubbed "the Internet's highest honor".
